Highlanders fall to Navarro
The McLennan Highlanders fell to the Navarro Bulldogs 5-3 on Monday afternoon at Bosque River Ballpark.
McLennan began the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the first. Evan Williams singled and Matt Campbell drew a walk. Andrew Rhodes followed with a single that was mishandled by the right fielder, bringing Williams and Campbell in to score.
Navarro scored one run in the third as Daniel Castello singled, moved to second on a single by J.P. Phillips, advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Grayson Lewis and scored on a sacrifice fly by Sam McDonnell.
The Bulldogs tied the game with one run in the fifth as Castello walked, advanced around to third on a Highlander error and scored on a sacrifice fly by Lewis.
Navarro took the lead with three runs in the sixth. Kyle Kirk led off with a single. Ryan Thomas and C.J. Bills both walked, loading the bases. Costello drew a walk, bringing Kirk in to score. Phillips was hit by the pitch, bringing Thomas in to score. Bills then scored on a passed ball.
The Highlanders' final run came in the bottom of the eighth. Sydney Daley singled but was out at second on a fielder's choice by Braxton Hollenshead. Trevor Podsednik followed with a double, moving Hollenshead to third. Hollenshead then scored on a pinch hit by Zac Valenzuela.
McLennan returns to conference play on Wednesday, traveling to Ranger for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
